Private Pay Therapy

More choice in your therapist. More flexibility in your care.

Finding the right therapist is personal. Your choice of care doesn't have to be limited by an insurance network.

At Haven of Healing for Youth & Families, we offer private-pay therapy for individuals, couples, and families who want the flexibility to choose a therapist based on their needs, goals, and therapeutic fit.

Whether you have insurance, have out-of-network benefits, or simply prefer not to use insurance for therapy, private pay gives you another option for accessing the support that's right for you.

You don't have to be uninsured to choose private pay.

Greater Privacy

When insurance is billed for therapy, certain information—including a diagnosis and information about the services you receive—is generally submitted as part of the claim. With private pay, Haven does not submit claims for those sessions to your health insurance plan.

Why Choose Private Pay Therapy?

Insurance can make mental health care more affordable, and for many people, using insurance is the right choice. Private pay simply gives you another option—and greater flexibility in deciding what works best for you.

Choose Your Therapist Based on Fit

Finding the right therapist is about more than finding someone who accepts your insurance. Private pay allows you to choose a therapist based on their experience, approach, specialty, and connection with you—not simply whether they participate with your insurance plan.

More Flexibility in Your Care

Insurance coverage is determined by the terms and requirements of your specific health plan. Private pay may offer greater flexibility when choosing services, addressing treatment goals, or receiving care that may not otherwise be covered by your plan.

Access Specialized Support

Sometimes the therapist who feels like the best fit isn't in your insurance network. Private pay gives you the ability to choose a Haven therapist based on the expertise, therapeutic approach, and support you're looking for.

Is Private Pay Right for You?

There isn't one “right” way to pay for therapy. For many people, using insurance makes the most sense. For others, private pay provides the choice, privacy, or flexibility they're looking for.

Private pay may be worth considering if...

You've found the right therapist, but they're not in your insurance network.
You don't necessarily have to start your search over because a therapist isn't contracted with your health plan.

You want to choose your therapist based on fit and expertise.
Your therapist's experience, specialty, therapeutic approach, and connection with you may be more important to you than network participation.

You prefer not to submit therapy claims to your insurance.
Some clients simply prefer to keep their therapy sessions outside of their health insurance claims.

You're seeking services your insurance may not cover.
Coverage varies considerably between plans, and some services or circumstances may not qualify for insurance reimbursement.

You have out-of-network benefits.
Depending on your plan, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement for a portion of the cost of therapy after paying Haven directly.

You have an HSA or FSA.
HSA/FSA funds may be used for eligible mental health services.

Still not sure? That's okay.

Choosing between insurance and private pay doesn't have to be complicated. Our team can help you understand the payment options available at Haven so you can make an informed decision about what works best for you.

Specialized Therapy. Personalized Care.

The right therapist isn't simply someone who is available—it's someone who understands what you're experiencing and knows how to help.

At Haven of Healing for Youth & Families, our clinicians provide individualized, evidence-based care for children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Private pay gives you the flexibility to choose a therapist whose experience and approach align with what you're looking for.

Straightforward, Transparent Pricing

We believe you should understand the cost of therapy before you begin.

Private-pay fees at Haven of Healing are based on the clinician's level of licensure, experience, specialty, session type, and length of service. This allows us to offer multiple private-pay options while reflecting differences in clinician experience, training, specialization, and scope of practice.

Clinician Fee Levels

Supervised Clinicians
Private-pay rates generally fall toward the lower end of the fee range.

Independently Licensed Clinicians
Private-pay rates generally fall within the mid-to-upper portion of the fee range based on independent clinical licensure, experience, and scope of practice.

Advanced Specialty Services
Some clinicians or specialty services may carry a higher fee based on advanced training, specialization, complexity of care, or extended session length.

Your exact fee will be reviewed with you before your first appointment.

What Your Private-Pay Fee Includes

Your fee covers more than the time spent face-to-face with your therapist. Depending on the service provided, it may also include:

  • Professional clinical time during your scheduled appointment

  • Routine clinical documentation

  • Treatment planning and clinical formulation

  • Standard care coordination within the normal course of therapy

  • Use of specialized clinical skills and evidence-informed interventions when clinically appropriate

HSA & FSA Payments

HSA and FSA funds may be used for eligible mental health services. Eligibility and reimbursement requirements are determined by your individual plan.

Good Faith Estimates

If you are uninsured or choose not to use your insurance for therapy, you may have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining the expected cost of your care. Haven will provide Good Faith Estimate information in accordance with applicable federal requirements.

Using Out-of-Network Benefits

You do not necessarily have to choose an in-network therapist to use insurance benefits.

If your health plan includes out-of-network mental health coverage, you may be eligible for reimbursement for a portion of what you pay for therapy.

When available under Haven’s practice policies, we may provide a superbill that you can submit directly to your insurance company.

Your insurance company determines whether services qualify for reimbursement and how much it will reimburse. Out-of-network reimbursement is not guaranteed.

Before beginning therapy, consider asking your insurance company:

  • Do I have out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental health services?

  • Do I have an out-of-network deductible?

  • How much of that deductible have I met?

  • What percentage of the allowed amount will my plan reimburse?

  • Is prior authorization required?

  • How do I submit a superbill for reimbursement?

Ready to find the right fit?

Choose a Haven therapist based on the experience, specialty, and approach that best meet your needs—not simply your insurance network.
